Okay, lets talk about this real quick. There is a lot of negative judgment that goes on regarding marrying young. "You're throwing your life away!" "You haven't even matured yet." "There are so many other people you could meet!" I don't need to justify that I married young because I know for a fact that God is pretty chill about the whole thing. And his opinion is the only one I care about.
To be honest, I wasn't so sure at first. I had just graduated high school that year. I had never lived on my own. I didn't even feel ready to be in a relationship at all. It was a little bit of a scary thought. Dallin told me one day that he had prayed and knew he was supposed to marry me. Like whaaaa? The thought hadn't even crossed my mind yet. Okay, well maybe it had, but not very seriously. It seemed so easy for him.
Well, I didn't really want to pray about it, so I didn't for a really long time. What if I asked god if Dallin was the one and He said
no? After avoiding the question for weeks, I finally got down on my knees and asked about Dallin. We (God and I) chatted for a long while, but I felt like I was getting nowhere. I didn't receive my answer until I read my scriptures later that day. I opened them up, randomly flipping through the pages until suddenly one of my favorite scriptures stood out to me. It answered my question perfectly and I knew God was answering me. After that experience, after that confirmation from my Heavenly Father,
I knew. I knew that I was supposed to marry Dallin.
I'd like to say that not one single doubt came to me after that, but that's not the truth. How could it be with Satan trying to tear apart everyones happy endings? He definitely planted a few doubts in my head, but none that I wasn't able to push through with the answer God gave me. Gods truth is always stronger than Satans lies. And so, I will always be able to go back to that day I got my answer and find strength in it.
People try to hide their shock when they realize I'm a married 18 year old, but they never succeed. Their eyes go wide and they try to figure out what to say. Usually its a surprised "wow..." But these reactions don't phase me. I'm never ashamed or embarrassed.
Marriage means I get to live with my best friend, I never have to be alone and I have someone who loves me today, tomorrow and forever. I don't know about you but that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. I'm lucky to have found my forever so early.
